WHO WE ARE
Kids’ Space Child Advocacy Center and our partners are the front-line responders in Muskogee to reports of child sexual abuse, as well as reports of physical abuse of children, drug endangerment, Internet crimes against children and other forms of child abuse and neglect. Kids’ Space CAC is the city’s only not-for-profit organization that coordinates the efforts of child welfare specialists, law enforcement professionals, family advocates, medical experts and mental health clinicians under one roof while offering a child friendly atmosphere for our victims. We are co-located with specialized teams representing:
• Muskogee Police Department
• Kids’ Space Sexual Assault Nurses and Mental Health Team
• Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma
In addition to facilitating the collaborative approach to our partners’ investigations, the Kids’ Space CAC staff conduct forensic interviews, provide family advocacy and support to reduce trauma, offer mental health therapy, facilitate parenting classes, and identify resources so that children and families may begin the healing process.
Case Coordination
Kids' Space, Muskogee Children’s Advocacy Center receives referrals for service from our law enforcement and child welfare partners, when a report of child abuse or serious neglect has been made. Our Family Advocates coordinate the investigation with the multidisciplinary team and arranges a family’s visit to the center, including transportation when necessary.
The Family Advocate is the family’s first contact with Kids' Space CAC. The Advocate provides initial information about what a visit to the center will entail, including the forensic interview, family advocacy services, and often a medical exam. The Advocate also gets information about each child’s specific needs, ensuring the team is prepared to provide the best experience possible for the child. In addition, the Advocate completes a needs assessment with every family who visits our center.
The Advocate works closely with the medical professionals, law enforcement, child welfare, and assistant state’s attorney to ensure that each team member is available to provide comprehensive services to the child and family during their visit to the center. Once initial services are completed the Kids' Space Advocate continues to work with the child and caregiver through the life of the case making any referrals necessary.
